Inside Intelligencia AI: A Day in The Life With Mary Dimitraki, Scientific Associate in Clinical Data Excellence

We never tire of mentioning how instrumental our people are to our success—because it is so incredibly true. Everything we have achieved and continue to do at Intelligencia AI and in the industry is because of our dedicated, intelligent, motivated professionals who spot areas of opportunity and tackle challenges every day with enthusiasm, creativity and the dogged determination needed to raise the bar.

But our people are more than just senior developers, customer experience experts or machine learning gurus; they are exceptional, unique and interesting individuals we want you to get to know.

Throughout our “Day in the Life” blog series, we’ll introduce you to our global team and introduce you to the intelligence – our people – behind Intelligencia AI.

Our fourth profile is with one of our scientific associates, Mary Dimitraki. Like many others, Mary discovered Intelligencia AI and her role through word-of-mouth. Connect with her on LinkedIn and read the Q&A below to learn more.

When did you start at Intelligencia AI? And how did you find out about the company and role?

I first joined Intelligencia AI as a Scientific Associate in November 2022 and I have been at the company for about a year and a half now. At the time, I had recently graduated from my Masters degree in infectious diseases and I was introduced to Intelligencia AI through a very good friend of mine and now colleague, Ioanna Kouvari (Scientific Associate in Clinical Data Excellence). She had essentially given me an overview of the company’s culture, goals, and as well as the role as an Scientific Associate. Then after some serious thought, I decided to apply for the position as an Scientific Associate.

What inspired you to say ‘yes’ to your first role at Intelligencia AI?

There were two main reasons why I immediately accepted the role as an Scientific Associate at Intelligencia AI. The first reason was that I wanted to pursue a job that was not only related to the field of biology but also contributed to breakthroughs in the medical field, and Intelligencia AI is all about that. Especially since the company aims to boost drug development, bringing safer drugs faster to those who need it the most. This made it really easy for me to accept this role and to start my career. Another reason and actually the main reason why I said yes to my current role was the incredible company culture at Intelligencia AI. When I joined, everything that I had heard about the company was true. This company is filled with passionate and inspiring people who genuinely care for one another and consistently raise the bar. Overall, I had every reason to accept  such a fantastic opportunity!

Can you briefly explain your role and what a typical week looks like?

As a Scientific Associate, where I am a part of the Clinical Data Excellence team, I am responsible for curating clinical data in the field of Oncology, Inflammation and Immunology, as well as Central Nervous System and Cardiovascular diseases. Also as of recently, I have joined the Onboarding team, where we are responsible for welcoming and preparing the new hires for their roles and as well as making sure the Clinical Data team is up to date and well organized. In these two interconnected roles, a typical week starts off working as a Scientific Associate and ends with working with the Onboarding team. Typically from Monday through Thursday, I will start my day with morning meetings with the Clinical Data team and for the rest of the afternoon I will work on my specific tasks as a Scientific Associate. This can be either working on updating specific clinical data or adding new data into our database. Then on Fridays, I devote the majority of the day to my onboarding duties. Currently, we do not have any new hires, so I focus on updating and organizing files for that week.

What advice would you share with someone wanting a career in AI, tech, and life sciences?

My advice for someone that wants a career in AI, tech, and life sciences, is to not overthink things and to just go for it. The reason why is because this space is rapidly growing,  offering  new exciting career opportunities and extensive career development. Overall, I would highly encourage someone to explore this exciting and growing field.

What skills have you developed, honed, or started to build since joining Intelligencia AI? How has the culture here helped you grow personally and professionally?

Since joining Intelligencia AI as a Scientific Associate, I have developed a range of hard and soft skills essential to my role.  Through my everyday work and responsibilities, I have become proficient in reading, comprehending, and curating clinical data, as well as broadening my understanding of statistics and statistical analysis. I have also honed my ability to communicate complex information clearly, solve problems, and maintain strong attention to detail. These experiences have significantly contributed to my personal and professional growth. However, all of this would not have been possible without the support of the amazing people at Intelligencia AI.
